Cooperation with External Society Guidelines
American Society of Neuroradiology 2025 Meeting: Current planning is underway, and the Joint Tumor Section has been preliminarily approached by Chaitra Badve (Cleveland Clinic) to assist in seminar or session bringing their membership up to date on the imaging recommendations we have published for progressive glioblastoma, newly diagnosed glioblastoma, vestibular schwannoma, metastasis and low grade glioma. Depending on the scope and need of the ASNR, we have offered to provide speakers from our writing groups to present that information.
Proposals for Future Projects
Metastatic Brain Tumor Guideline Update: The CNS is working with PCORI (Patient Centered Outcome Research Institute) to develop a systematic review for the Brain Metastases Guideline Update (for surgery, radiation and cytotoxic chemotherapy) (proposal submitted and in revision). If accepted, PCORI will fund the development of a systematic review from which CNS will develop the guideline update, led by Dr. Ryan Ormond.
Craniopharyngioma Guidelines: Jamie Van Gompel and team, under review by Guidelines Committee for possible approval.
Guidelines
Application for development of future guidelines projects can be obtained at CNS Nominate A Guideline. If individuals in the section are interested in developing a topic, the Joint Tumor Section Guidelines Committee can assist in the technical aspects of such a project. If authors want the assistance of the CNS Guidelines Office resources for this work, the proposed topic must be proposed in the official nomination form (from the above website), presented to and approved by the CNS Guidelines Committee. The use of the CNS Guidelines Office will obligate the authors, by written agreement, to publish in Neurosurgery.
Practice Parameters
Information on the steps to formally initiate this process and obtain CNS support is available at CNS Guidelines.
For authors who wish to publish outside of Neurosurgery, for instance in Journal of Neuro-oncology, the Joint Tumor Section Guidelines Committee can also assist in the development of such a project in preparation for publication.
CNS Guidelines Office Resources
The Joint Tumor Section Guidelines wants to thank Trish Rehring, Janet Waters and Kirsten Aquino of the CNS Guidelines Office who have provided key logistical, reference librarian and proofreading expertise for our projects.
