AANS/CNS Section Tumors Neuro-Oncology Trainee Award

Dr. Diogo Garcia, MD was the recipient of the AANS/CNS Section Tumors Neuro-Oncology Trainee Award for the presentation entitled: “Intra-operative near real-time detection of tumor infiltration in IDH-mutant gliomas using desorption electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry (DESI-MS)”, presented during the Section on Tumor Session II on Tuesday October 11, 2022. The AANS/CNS Section Tumors Neuro-Oncology Trainee Award is given to a high ranking brain tumor clinical or basic science abstract submitted by a trainee from a rising program defined as an institution that has received 2 or less awards since 2015. The award carries an honorarium of $1000.

American Brain Tumor Association Young Investigator Award

Dr. Michael Ivan was the recipient of the American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA) Young Investigator Award for the presentation entitled: “Controlling Glioblastoma Invasion In vivo with CD97”, presented during the Section on Tumor Session I on Monday October 10, 2022. which is sponsored by the American Brain Tumor Association, the Young Investigator Award is given at the AANS and the CNS meetings to a junior faculty member (first/senior author) involved in neuro-oncology research who has demonstrated outstanding potential for future basic science research. The applicant must have been out of training for less than 6 years. A $1,000 honorarium accompanies this award.

Journal of Neuro-Oncology Award

Dr. Elaina Wang, MD was the recipient of the Journal of Neuro-Oncology Award for the presentation entitled: “Single-cell RNA-seq Highlights Immune-driven Gender Differences in Glioblastoma”, presented during the Section on Tumor Session I on Monday October 10, 2022. The Journal of Neuro-Oncology Award is given to a high-ranking abstract related to either clinical or basic science neuro-oncology research. The award carries an honorarium of $1000.

Rosenblum - Mahaley Clinical Research Award

Dr. Jeffrey Traylor, MD was the recipient of the Rosenblum – Mahaley Clinical Research Award (Section on Tumors) for the presentation entitled: “Evaluating Risk of Recurrence in Patients with Meningioma: Analysis of 703 Cases”, presented during the Section on Tumor Session I on Monday October 10, 2022. The Rosenblum – Mahaley Clinical Research Award is given to a resident, fellow or attending in neuro-oncology who presents the best clinical research paper in the field. The award carries an honorarium of $1000.

KLS Martin Tumor Award

Danielle Miyagishima was the recipient of the KLS Martin Tumor Award for the presentation entitled, “Identifying Spatial Transcriptomics Signaling Networks in Human Glioblastoma Using Graph-Based Machine Learning”, presented during the Section on Tumor Session I on Monday October 10, 2022.  The KLS Martin Tumor Award is given to a high scoring abstract on CNS tumors by a medical student, resident, or neurosurgeon. The award will be presented at the CNS and AANS annual meetings and will be associated with a $1,000 honorarium.

Integra Foundation Award

John Andrews was the recipient of The Integra Foundation Award for the presentation entitled, “The neurosurgical anatomy of deficits in speech production”, presented during the Section on Tumor Session I on Monday October 10, 2022. The Integra Foundation Award is given to the best clinical research paper on CNS tumors. A $1,000 honorarium accompanies this award.

James Rutka Pediatric Brain Tumor Award

Dr. Evan Bander was the recipient of the James Rutka Pediatric Brain Tumor Award  for the presentation entitled: “A Positive Impact on Patterns of Relapse in Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma after Convection-Enhanced Delivery of Omburtamab”, presented during the Section on Tumor Session II on Tuesday October 11, 2022. James Rutka Pediatric Brain Tumor Award is given to the best pediatric tumor abstract. The award carries an honorarium of $1000.

Lunsford and Leksell Radiosurgery Award

Dr. Andrea Klein was the recipient of the Lunsford and Leksell Radiosurgery Award for the presentation entitled: “Impact of Cochlear Dose on Hearing Preservation Following Stereotactic Radiosurgery in Treatment of Vestibular Schwannomas: A Multi-center Study”, presented during the Section on Tumor Session II on Tuesday October 11, 2022. The Lunsford and Leksell Radiosurgery Award  is given to the best radiosurgery abstract. The award carries an honorarium of $1000.

Synaptive Preuss Award

Dr. Joerg Christian Tonn was the recipient of the Synaptive Preuss Award for the presentation entitled: “Extent of Resection in Glioblastoma: Prognostic Validation of a New Classification from the RANO Resect Group”, presented during the Section on Tumor Session II on Tuesday October 11, 2022.   The Synaptive Preuss Award  is an award given to the best basic science tumor-related paper submitted by young investigator. The award carries an honorarium of $1000.

Mizuho Minimally Invasive Brain Tumor Surgery Award

Dr. Doo Sik Kong was the recipient of the Mizuho Minimally Invasive Brain Tumor Surgery Award   for the presentation entitled: “Indications and outcome of endoscopic transorbital surgery for trigeminal schwannoma based on the classification: A multicenter study with 50 cases (Korean Society of Endoscopic Neurosurgery – 009)”, presented during the Section on Tumor Session II on Tuesday October 11, 2022.   The Mizuho Minimally Invasive Brain Tumor Surgery Award is an award given to a high scoring abstract focused on minimally invasive techniques for brain tumor surgery by a resident or neurosurgeon. The award carries an honorarium of $1000.

BrainLab Neurosurgery Award

Dr. Pablo Valdes was the recipient of the BrainLab Neurosurgery Award for the presentation entitled: “Neuroplastic changes across multiple brain resections in glioma patients: identification of patterns that predict beneficial repeat resection”, presented during the Section on Tumor Session I on Monday October 10, 2022. The BrainLab Neurosurgery Award is given to a neurosurgeon practicing outside the United States or in a non-academic setting in the United States with the best abstract related to central nervous system tumors. A $1,000 honorarium accompanies this award.

National Brain Tumor Society Award

Dr. Jae Ho Han was the recipient of the National Brain Tumor Society Award for the presentation entitled: “A Small RNA Signature from Extracellular Vesicles in Patient Plasma Correlates with Recurrence or Progression of High-grade Gliomas”, presented during the Section on Tumor Session III on Wednesday October 12, 2022. The National Brain Tumor Society (NBTS) Award award is given to a high scoring abstract by a resident or attending physician presenting work on minority, underserved, and/or rural populations with brain tumors or doing innovative early phase clinical trials. The award will be associated with a $1,000 honorarium.
