Tumor Section Emerging Technologies Traveling Fellowship (2025-2026)

Overview
In collaboration with Omniscient Neurotechnology, the AANS/CNS Section on Tumors is delighted to offer 2 traveling fellowships for 1-week each to neurosurgical trainee members during the 2025-2026 academic year. These traveling fellowships have been created to support greater inter-institutional collaboration and knowledge exchange within the realm of emerging technologies in neurosurgical oncology.
Eligible Host Sites and Mentors
Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (Dr. Raj Mukherjee)
University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (Dr. Costas Hadjipanayis)
University of Virginia (Dr. Jason Sheehan)
Eligible Participants
Eligible applicants will consist of trainees within senior neurosurgery residency (PGY4-7) or postgraduate fellows during the 2025-2026 academic year
Application Process
Fellowship Activities
Fellowship activities will primarily consistent of spending 1-week on site at the host institution to observe and participate in operative cases involving emerging technology, novel operative technique, and/or a collaborative research project. The site mentor will provide oversight during this time. We expect the site mentor to be present during the week of the traveling fellow and to arrange operative cases and educational opportunities in support of the fellowship during that time. The traveling fellow is encouraged to present at Grand Rounds or another educational conference during the fellowship week
in an effort to promote knowledge exchange.
Deliverables
Deliverables for the fellowship include 3 progress reports as noted within the Timeline below. The Traveling Fellow is encouraged to present at Grand Rounds or another educational conference during the Fellowship week in an effort to promote knowledge exchange. Additionally, the Fellow will be expected to present their experience at the Omniscient Circle Member Summit (April 2026), the AANS/CNS Tumor Section Satellite Symposium (Fall 2025), and through a written piece to be included in the AANS/CNS Tumor Section Newsletter (Spring 2026). The Fellow is encouraged to publish a case report, operative video, technical report, or establish a research collaborative between institutions (inclusive of completed institutional review board/IRB and data use agreement/DUA documentation) to foster academic intellectual exchange. The Fellow will receive a certificate during the AANS 2026 Annual Meeting.
